our woods

Wilderness escape to the pines.

Firstly, for the record. This isn’t really our woods. We don’t actually own it however it’s situated on Dartmoor and pretty close to where we live, it’s normally pretty quite and beautifully peaceful and the trees are amazing so we feel pretty connected to this collection of trees.

We’ve become pretty fond of heading up here on sunny days for book club or to play some games in the wilderness. We pack the blankets, hammock and of course, snacks and make the short walk from the car park into the woods. We like to find a gap in the trees which catches the sunlight but also allows space to use the hammock. We got our double hammock from Grand Trunk and it’s great, big enough and comfortable for 2 adults to sit in but also amazing to lie down in and spend time gazing up through the pines into the sky. I happy lie here for ours with this view.

This woodland also has some free roaming wildlife in fact last time we were here I was woken up by wild horses grazing 6ft from where I’d accidentally fallen asleep whilst reading. We’ve also had sheep and cows roam through our camp during the day which can be pretty daunting when you’re outnumbered. I love the sounds of being sat in the woods and find it’s the perfect escape from the daily routine and although this isn’t our woods at times it certainly feels like we are the only ones who know about it so until we do have our own woods, we’ll happily keep visiting.
