leather Tor Views

Scrambling up rock stacks for incredible panoramic views.

This burst of late September sunshine was too good to let it slip by so we set the Sunday alarm to 6am and headed to Dartmoor and Leather Tor which has incredible panoramic views (maybe even my favourite).

As the alarm rang, I have to admit I had to wrestle myself from switching it off and returning to sleep. It was still dark as we climbed into the car and headed for Dartmoor National Park, as we drove the sky slowly began to light up and as we reached Leather Tor there was a beautiful orange glow above us. Parking is easy here, in fact there are 2 small car parks to choose from. From here we headed across the road and up towards Sharpitor there is a steady climb and towards the top you’ll have to scramble over some of the granite rocks that make these amazing Tor’s we then headed left around Sharpitor and down a slight hill towards Leather Tor. With the skies getting brighter we headed around the base of Leather Tor to the far side where there is two rock stacks perfectly positioned to show off the incredible views from this Tor.

We sat in the morning sunshine and took in the beautiful dramatic views over looking Burrator Reservoir, Sheeps Tor and south Dartmoor landscape leading all the way to Plymouth, where we could even see a couple of large ships heading into port. I flew the drone and climbed a few rock stacks before headed down from the Tor to car park and headed home for bacon butties and a cup of tea.
